1984 and Propaganda
TASK #1: Political Propaganda
We will be looking at a series of political propaganda posters, and having a small discussion on them.
Who is the audience?
What product / idea is being sold?
What tactic is being used to sell the product / idea?
TASK #2: 1984 and the real world
Choose a real totalitarian government that has existed either in the past or currently still exists and compare and contrast that with the government in 1984.
This does require some research, in a blog post (or google doc if you are unable to access your blog) write 2 paragraphs that compare and contrast the governments.
Make sure to attribute your sources with hypertext.
TASK #3: Create your own dystopian world
We will now be creating our own dystopian world. On a google doc, create the following:

TASK #3: Create your own dystopian world
We will now be creating our own dystopian world. On a google doc, create the following:
- BACKSTORY: A dystopian story has a backstory: a war, natural disaster or other terrifying event is introduced early on in the story to set the stage. Describe the backstory for your dystopia.
- PROPAGANDA: An informational text from the government of your society. (this may be a separate document)
- RIGHTS: A Bill of Rights (at least 10 rules/laws the people in your society must live by)
- CITIZEN: Describe the average citizens in your dystopia. What do they wear? Describe their appearance; What do they do for a living?; Do they have children?; How do they behave on a daily basis?; What do they do for fun?; How do they respond to the government?
- INFRACTIONS: What happens to citizens who do not obey the government?

- Practice your dialogue
- Start recording your PSA / Commercial
- Edit the footage you have
HOMEWORK: Read 1984 from pages 105-179 over the break.
(Hint: There will be an exam on 1984 the week that we get back)
REMINDER: Your PSA / Commercial project is due on December 4th (Wednesday)
