TASK #2: 1984 and the real world

Choose a real totalitarian government that has existed either in the past or currently still exists and compare and contrast that with the government in 1984.

This does require some research, in a blog post (or google doc if you are unable to access your blog) write 2 paragraphs that compare and contrast the governments.

Make sure to attribute your sources with hypertext.

TASK #3: Create your own dystopian world

We will now be creating our own dystopian world. On a google doc, create the following:

  • BACKSTORY: A dystopian story has a backstory: a war, natural disaster or other terrifying event is introduced early on in the story to set the stage. Describe the backstory for your dystopia.
  • PROPAGANDA: An informational text from the government of your society. (this may be a separate document)
  • RIGHTS: A Bill of Rights (at least 10 rules/laws the people in your society must live by)
  • CITIZEN: Describe the average citizens in your dystopia. What do they wear? Describe their appearance; What do they do for a living?; Do they have children?; How do they behave on a daily basis?; What do they do for fun?; How do they respond to the government?
  • INFRACTIONS: What happens to citizens who do not obey the government?
TASK #4: PSA / Commercial Project

Incase you missed (or would like to rewatch) the student examples:

Toothbrush Ad
Scrunchie Ad

Take this time to continue working on your project.
At this point you should already have:
  • An outline of your PSA / commercial
  • Any dialogue written down for your PSA / commercial
During this work time you should:
  • Practice your dialogue
  • Start recording your PSA / Commercial
  • Edit the footage you have
HOMEWORK: Read 1984 from pages 105-179 over the break.

(Hint: There will be an exam on 1984 the week that we get back)

REMINDER: Your PSA / Commercial project is due on December 4th (Wednesday)
