1984 and The First Amendment
TASK #1: The First Amendment
What is your current understanding of the first amendment?
What is your current understanding of the pledge of allegiance?
Why do we do it?
Does the pledge of allegiance infringe on our first amendment rights?
As a class we are going to read the article The Ugly history of the Pledge of Allegiance and why it matters by the Washington Post
Please take a moment to write a blog post on YOUR BLOG (or a google document if you are unable to access your blog), your blog post should be about the role of free speech within 1984 and within our own society. How do they differ? What are the similarities? Use evidence from the book to back up your statement.
TASK #2: Create Your Own Pledge
Think back to the dystopian society you created last class (it may be helpful to pull up the notes you created last class).
In your groups (or alone) create a pledge that would exist inside that world.
Submit this pledge to google classroom for class credit.
TASK #3: Work Period
We will be moving the room next door to start editing your PSA / Commercials.
If you are unable to edit then you should be doing the following:
-ALEC extra credit work (for class participation)
-Dystopian Story (for class participation)
-Reading 1984 homework
HOMEWORK: Read 1984 from pages 179-224
Reminder:
There is an exam on 1984 part 1 & 2 next class
Your PSA and Commercial are due at the START of next class
